One thing that both Muslims and Christians have in common is that we both believe that Jesus is coming back to earth again.
Yes, Christians also believe that Jesus is coming back to earth again. After Jesus ascended into heaven, angels appeared to the disciples and said “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
The Quran says: In him (i.e. Allah) alone has vested the knowledge of when the last hour will come. (Surah 31:34) There is another verse in the Quran in which Jesus says “And surely when he (i.e. Isa) descends from heaven, he will be a sign of the nearness of the last hour, so do not doubt it at all and keep following me. This is the straight path.” (Surah 43:61)
What do Muslims believe Jesus will do when he comes to the world a second time?
Muslims believe that when Jesus returns to earth, he will kill the Dajjal.
Who is the Dajjal?
The Dajjal is the ultimate evil force in Islam. The word “dajjal” means “antichrist” or “someone who opposes the Messiah”. The Prophet Muhammad warned his followers against the dajjal and himself prayed to God for protection against the dajjal. O Allah, I seek refuge with you from the torment of hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the fitnah of the dajjal. (Sahih Muslim 589, Book 5, Hadith 163)
The bible also mentions the evil one as someone who opposes Christ. When Jesus was on earth, the devil tried to tempt him to sin. Jesus commanded the devil “Away from me, satan” and the devil left him. (Matt 4:10-11)
Will Jesus also destroy the antichrist when he comes to earth again?
Yes, the bible says “And then the lawless one (referring to the antichrist) will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.” (2 Thess 2:18)
Did Jesus also teach his disciples to pray for protection against the devil?
Jesus taught his disciples to pray that God will deliver them from the evil one (Matt 6:13). When he was on earth, he demonstrated his power over evil spirits and people were amazed that even the evil spirits obeyed him.
Which incident were you referring to?
One day when Jesus was at the synagogue, the bible says that just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the holy one of God.” “Be quiet” said Jesus sternly, “Come out of him”. The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other “What is this? He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” (Mark 1:21-27)
Did Jesus’ disciples also possess this authority over evil spirits?
Jesus taught his disciples to come against the devil using his name. “And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils.” (Mark 16:17)
That’s right. Today’s discussion has been interesting. I will come back to you if I have any questions.
