The Bible records many miracles of Jesus. Is it true that the Quran also contains many of Jesus’ miracles?
Yes, Jesus said in the Quran “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the figure of a bird. Then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by God’s leave. And I healed the blind and the lepers and I revive the dead by God’s leave. And I inform you concerning what you eat and what you store in your homes. And that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
In the Bible we read that Jesus went through all the towns and villages teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.
I understand there was an incident in the Bible when Jesus healed the leper.
The Bible records for us an incident when a man with leprosy came and knelt before Jesus and said “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man “I am willing” he said “be clean”. Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
Jesus touched the leper? I am surprised that Jesus would be willing to touch an unclean man as this would also make him unclean.
There were instances in the Bible when Jesus said the word and someone in another part of town got healed so he need not have touched the leper. But I believe he did that to show us something.
What’s that?
I believe the Bible wanted to show us that the cleanliness of Jesus was greater than the uncleanliness in the world. When he touched an unclean object, he did not become unclean. On the contrary the unclean object became clean.
The Quran also taught that Jesus healed the leper and did many other miracles. These miracles are meant to be a sign for us.
According to the Quran, what is the sign of all these miracles and how should we respond to them?
The Quran says that when Jesus came with clear signs he said “Now have I come to you with wisdom. Therefore fear God and obey me for God, he is my Lord and your Lord. So worship ye him. This is a straight way.
The Quran describes fearing God and obeying Jesus as the straight way?
Yes.
In the Bible Jesus also describes himself like that. He told his disciples “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.
Jesus calls himself the way, the truth and the life?
Yes. Jesus told his disciples “Very truly I tell you. Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
In the Quran, Jesus teaches the same thing. He told his followers “O ye servants of mine. No fear need you have today and neither shall you grief.”
There are so many common things about Jesus in the Quran and Bible. Let’s discuss them further.
